Research Scholarships for Chinese Students, University of Ghent, Belgium

Special Research Fund – Cofunding for Chinese candidates holding a CSC-grant:With support from its “Special Research Fund” (BOF), Ghent University is able to provide cofunding for Chinese PhD students holding a PhD-grant from the Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC)

Scholarship Description: The candidates must possess the Chinese nationality and must apply for a CSC-grant in 2011 or be a PhD-student at Ghent University with a CSC-grant.

Not every research domain is covered by the CSC. list of CSC Favorably-Sponsored Areas & Majors
Candidates can look for a Ghent University promoter in their domain of interest by browsing the list of faculties. There is also a research proposalssuggested by some Ghent University professors. If you are interested in any of these proposals, please contact the supervisor mentioned in the proposal

Candidates can apply maximum two times for a CSC- cofunding scholarship.
Chinese candidates who are not illegible for a CSC-grant or are not awarded a CSC-grant but who want to do a PhD at Ghent University, can apply for a doctoral grant for candidates from developing countries, issued by Ghent University.

How does it work?
The candidate applies to Ghent University jointly with a promoter of Ghent University.The Research Council makes a selection of the applications based in part on the recommendations obtained from members of the Council for Development Cooperation. The recommendation is based on the evaluation of the doctoral project, the qualifications of the applicant and the scientific/scholarly potential of the promoter’s research group(s).

How much funding is involved?
The cofunding consists of financing for living and accommodation (about €5.400/year), insurance (about €500) and a bench fee (€3.720/year)

Charles Wallace India Trust Visiting Fellowships Programme for Indians Nationals in UK

Scholarship Description:These enable academics, writers and translators to spend between two and three months at selected universities where they can devote themselves to their own work and to interacting with colleagues.

There are ten fellowships. Each is intended to be mutually beneficial. The fellow is expected to contribute to the life of the host institution eg by leading a seminar in which they present their research or writing. Fellows are selected by agreement between the host institution and CWIT. In most cases applications should be made direct to the university ( see below for general guidance but also go to the links to the universities) The fellowships cover international fares and accommodation and living costs in the UK.

Applicants must :

be Indian citizens living in Indiabe between 25 and 45 ( except for translator fellowships for which there is no upper age limit)have completed postgraduate studies in their area of specialization and/or have between 5-7 years professional or academic experienceinclude a proposal stating clearly what they want to do at the host institution and how they plan to use the experience on return to India.not have had a CWIT grant for the previous 5 years.

Scholarship Description: Applications may now be submitted from well-qualified candidates for one fully funded three year PhD studentship within the Human Cognitive Neuroscience Unit in Psychology.

The studentship is funded by the Alzheimer’s Society to work with Prof. Sergio Della Sala and Dr. Michaela Dewar on the topic of Memory Interference in people with MCI and Alzheimer’s Disease. The project will begin in September 2011. The studentship provides for tuition fees at the UK/EU level plus an annual stipend of £15,000 per annum for three years. The successful candidate will join a vibrant, successful, collaborative community of researchers and will participate in all the Psychology events.

Women Scientist Scholarship Scheme (WOS-C), India

Scholarship program for women’s in the field of Science/ engineering / medicine or allied areas in the area of intellectual property rights in India

Scholarship Description: A scheme of Government of India for the women scientists, “Women Scientists Scholarship Scheme (WOS-C)” is being operated by the Department of Science & Technology (DST). The scheme aims to train women having qualifications in science/ engineering / medicine or allied areas in the area of intellectual property rights (IPR) and their management for a period of one year.

Government is interested in retaining the scientific talent of Indian women seeking scientific pursuits and keen to encourage women to work from their homes and enabling them to draw a good balance between professional and domestic demands. The scheme is being coordinated and implemented by Patent Facilitating Centre (PFC) of Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) on behalf of DST. The selection of the candidates is done by an all India level written test followed by a rigorous interview. Selected candidates will be given stipend for one year. Training will include one month of an intensive orientation programme on IPR followed by specialized workshops and hands-on-training in agencies engaged in IPR protection and management.

Scholarship
The scholarship will be admissible for a period of one year and the amount of scholarship
will be Rs. 12,500 per month for candidates having MSc/BTech/MBBS/BPharma or
equivalent qualification and Rs.17,500 per month for PhD/ MTech/ MPharma/ MVSc/
MS/MD or equivalent.

Eligibility Criteria
Essential
A candidate should be:
1. An Indian citizen.
2. Master of Science in physical sciences, chemical sciences, life sciences or allied areas; or Bachelor or Master degree holder in engineering, medicine, pharmaceutical science, veterinary science or allied areas or doctorate in any of the above areas. Candidates with higher qualifications are welcome to apply.
3. Familiar with handling of computerized databases, surfing the net and information searches.
4. A candidate should not be more than 50 years of age on the date of advertisement in the Employment News on October 31, 2010.
Desirable
Experience in research, preparation of project reports, term papers and similar activities

China Scholarship Council & University of Western Australia Joint PhD Scholarships, China

Scholarship Description: he China Scholarship Council (CSC) and The University of Western Australia (UWA) are offering postgraduate research scholarships each year to students from the People’s Republic of China who intend to undertake a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree at UWA. UWA will provide a scholarship for tuition fees and health insurance for selected students and the CSC will consider the applications of these students for a living allowance as prescribed from time to time by the Chinese Government, a return airfare to Australia by the most economical route, and visa application fees. Only applicants intending to enroll in a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program are eligible. If the selected Chinese students successfully complete the requirements of the program, they will be conferred with a Doctor of Philosophy degree by UWA.
